The corn flows out and the pipe sucks it up and pumps it into the new location in the bed of the newer truck.

The pumping machine (have not a clue what you call it) is placed over the back end to blow the grain (corn) into the bed. One of the workers told me that the truck will start to back up to spread the corn down the whole length of the bed.

I kept my distance on the other side of the road as I think the broken bed of the truck is still moving downward. I am also worried that the walls of the bed might just give way and dump the corn into the roadway. The traffic was never stopped and there were not any police on the scene while I was there. Maybe most of the weight was downward and not to the side where passing cars would be in danger from the mess.

Two more trucks were called in to help. One smaller one brings a pump to move the grain in the first truck to the third one that is just driving up in the back.

A lovely red Freightliner Columbia in our rearview mirror. The Ford of semi-trucks. I drove one of these proudly for a year and a half. One hell of an experience (got to see every state and a lot of sights in the continental US!) that I highly recommend if you can and have guts and good sense. People in cars don't realize how precarious an 80,000 pound loaded rig is on a wet or snowy road. Good truck drivers should be given respect.

Tree falls on semis at rest area

A Hemlock tree fell onto three semitrucks at the I-5, Bow Hill rest area. Luckily the tree landed between the cab and trailers of the trucks, and none of sleeping drivers were injured.
